Seasonal Internships

The Seasonal Internships through Fireweed Farm & School offer the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the various aspects of a thriving herb farm. Interns work and learn along side two experienced herbalists and herb-growers, farm founder Jessy Delleman and farm assistant manager Harmony Pillon.

The internships are unpaid volunteer positions, with a 1 or 2 day commitment per week for 10 weeks. As an intern you become an integral part of our farm team for that period of time and are relied upon to be punctual, and attend each day of your 10 week commitment.

We value the time and effort of our interns, and offer a truly mutually beneficial work & learning exchange. Opportunities to gain a wide variety of experiences will be given, as well as some mini-lessons regarding aspects of herbalism and herb farming such as materia medica, medicine making, propagation etc. Lunch is provided each week, as well as herbal tea throughout the day.

In exchange for experience and opportunties to learn, interns are expected to work hard and efficiently. You must be willing to do a variety of tasks, and must work well in a group environment. Enthusiasm about exploring the world of herb growing and herbal medicine is a prerequisite. The internship tasks and activities vary per season. Four separate Internships are offered for each of the four seasons.

I wanted to take the internship with Fireweed to really just get to be around herbs more. To further my learning from some first hand experiences with the plants. Which totally happened, even in winter! Plus getting to hear and learn from the experiences Jessy and Harmony themselves have with the plants, was a great gift on it’s own.

It has been such a delight to work with Jessy and Harmony as part of the internship program. I had been craving an opportunity to start working directly with the plants, and it feels very right to begin my relationship with them at the farm. All of the days at the farm have been incredibly diverse, and I appreciate getting a taste tester for each of the many aspects of herb growing, harvesting, and medicine making. I really like plant propagating and seeing how a small bed of herbs can become many many divided plants. Jessy also takes advantage of teaching opportunities... I feel very lucky to be involved with Fireweed. It’s the dirty fingernails and smiling faces I look forward to, and every week I come home feeling engaged and inspired. Thanks for holding space for people to connect more intimately with plants!

Welcome to the Seasonal Internship Application! We look forward to hearing from you!

The application is your opportunity to let us get to know you a bit, get an idea what you are able to bring to the farm with your assets, and what you are most interested in getting experience with and learning in exchange for your hard work. The internship is an investment, as such we would like to see that reflected in the time you spend crafting your application.

To apply to the any of the upcoming internships, please fill out and submit the form below. Read through each question before filling out the application. Make sure to answer each question. Please answer in detail and as thoroughly as possible, and aim for 150-300 words per answer minimum. Applications that do not meet the minimum word requirement will not be considered.

If your application is selected we will contact you to schedule an interview. Being contacted for an interview does not guarantee placement in the internship. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we cannot promise to contact each applicant independently, but we will do our best to reply within 2-3 weeks of receiving your application.

If you have any questions or concerns you are encouraged to contact Jessy or Harmony at fireweedschool@gmail.com before applying.
