The farm is 1/4 acre of mixed vegetables and medicinal plants , as well as a plant nursery. It is located at The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture, on the traditional lands of the Tseycum First Nation, in what is now called North Saanich, Vancouver Island.

These lands were appropriated by settlers around the 1850’s and over time became part of the 500+ acre Glamorgan farm. In the 1950’s the site was developed into the Sandown Racetrack and operated as a horse racing facility for over fifty years. In 2017, the land was transferred to the District of North Saanich, and through much community involvement, it has come to pass that it will now serve as a place for food production, education and ecological stewardship.

In 2020, the Sandown gates were opened to a group of emerging farmers, and we were fortunate to be among them. The land is in rough shape, and the process of healing this soil and developing an abundant and healthy farm will take time. But nature, in all its infinite wisdom had begun to regenerate this land years before we arrived. The site is filled with life, both plant and animal, and I am grateful to be there. Over time, I hope to demonstrate that through regenerative farming practices, we can further improve the health of the soil, sequester carbon, and support ecosystem restoration all while growing beautiful, healthy food.

Prior to its move to Sandown, Fireweed Farms was known as Fireweed Farm & School and was owned by herbalist and teacher Jessy Delleman. In 2020 Jessy moved to the Comox Valley, where she continues to operate her seed and medicine business Ravensong Seeds & Herbals.
